Greg and I started talking more and more after we first started talking again on Facebook. We are both in the Army so time was not on our side, but we would text and talk at night. Finally we started making time and would see each other on the weekends and sometimes at night.
I will never forget our FIRST KISS THAT TOOK US OUT OF THE FRIEND ZONE. We were in my barracks room (basically like a dorm room)laying on my bed. We were talking about random stuff when he just reached over and kissed me. I didn't know what to do at first, but then I went with it and realized I COULD REALLY LIKE THIS GUY.
Months went by like the blink of an eye and Greg got word that he was deploying to Afghanistan. At this point we were spending every night and every weekend together. I was devastated and realized it was time to make decisions.
DO YOU WANT ME TO WAIT FOR YOU WHILE YOUR GONE?
That question burned in my mind but I never had the backbone to ask it. Finally, his plane was leaving and I didn't have any more time to put it off. SURE. That was the response I got. What do you do with "sure"? Well, you wait.
Greg called me about every three days. We talked as long as we could before he had to go out on another mission. If I ever missed a call I would cry myself to sleep knowing that could have been the last time I got to talk to him. You see, Greg is a Cavalry Scout. He walks through villages and sets up observations points. He is in the heart of the combat. I have never been so thankful of someone as I was every time he took out of his day to call me.
SEPTEMBER 7, 2012.
The exact day Greg came home and I got to see him again. It was a weird, excited, nervous, un easy, giddy kind of feeling. He looked the same, but I knew he would never be the same person.
Greg and I went through a couple battles after he came back. We had a couple trust issues and broke up for a couple weeks. We eventually realized that working on a relationship meant more than anything else and committed to each other. He battled with PTSD and even ended up in the ER one night with a panic attack. Sitting in that hospital room with I realized I wanted to spend forever with this man.
JANUARY 31, 2013. We went to the courthouse on our lunch break and said "I do". It wasn't sparkles, dresses, big cakes, music, or anything fancy. It was him and I committing to spend our lives working with each other and spending the whole time madly in love.
Someday, we will have a fancy ceremony to recommit our vowed, but at the end of the day I walked away with my prince charming and thats all I ever dreamed about.
